Nestled amid the tempestuous 90-minute Symphony No. 2 by Gustav Mahler is a 4 ½ minute interlude called “Urlicht,” or “Primeval Light.”

The symphony, commonly known as the “Resurrection,” consists of five movements rather than the customary four, and the stage is packed with:

17 woodwinds
25 brass instruments
20+ percussion pieces
3 soloists and large choir
2 harps
1 organ and
“the largest contingent of strings available”

Some might accuse Mahler of bombast but you want heavy instrumentation for a heavy subject, nicht wahr?

A cool thing about live performances is that in the final movement a player with Gabriel’s horn is positioned in the middle of the audience facing the stage, creating a heavenly call and response moment.

This great. Thanks for all of your tabs. I just joined the forum recently but I've been enjoying your tabs with v standard notation for a while now. It is more of a learning experience when you've got both forms of notation side by side (or above one another)
