L.C. Agnew, a renowned fiddler, passed away at his home in Abilene, Texas on Sunday, April 9, 2017.
Early in his career, he played a number of venues including the Louisiana Hayride. In 1967 he opened the Carpenters Hall in Abilene, Texas where he formed the Dixie Playboys. In 1974, L.C. opened the Ponderosa Ballroom, now known as Guitars 'n Cadillacs, where he and the Dixie Playboys were the house band, as well as hosting guests such as Ray Price, Asleep at the Wheel among many others.
Over the years, L.C. played with many artists such as Johnny Horton, George Jones, Governor Jimmie Davis and Slim Whitman.
Larry Toliver played pedal steel guitar for awhile at The Ponderosa, and there were several others who also played pedal steel at The Ponderosa whom I can't recall right now.
In the picture below are, Left to right:- Dickie Rosser -Sax, Ron Williams - Piano, Larry Toliver - Steel Guitar, Ronnie Scott - Vocalist, LC Agnew - Fiddle and Owner, Randy Maynard - Drummer, Jim Sturrock -Bass, Tony Pritchard - Mgr. Ponderosa

What a great band at the Ponderosa, including Merle David and Curtis Potter, Billy Thompson, and of course, L.C. Agnew.
Rest in Peace L.C.
You will be missed, and you left some beautiful music as a legacy. _________________ Carter D10 8+5; Peavey Nashville 112 Amp

I had the opportunity to work at the Ponderosa several times with my band "Memory Lane". I always enjoyed having L.C. out to be with us and I would ask him to sing "The Keeper Of My Heart" Always had a great time!
He was true Gentleman in every respect. God Bless You L.C. _________________ 1975 Emmons P/P D-10, Sierra Sesion D-10, Dekley HS-210, Sho-Bud "Blue Darlin" V, Evans FET-500HV amp,Goodrich L-120 pedal |
