Hi!

I'm new to pedal steels, and I would appreciate if someone out here could give me a brief history of Emmons pedal steels, what the models are and what exactly is "push-pull". I've search all over the internet but I haven't found anything really well documented. Thanks.

Yann,

you might want to employ the Forum's own search function in the upper right corner. This topic has been, err... widely discussed.

Yann,
Here is a link with a couple of diagrams of how a push-pull steel operates. http://www.steelguitar.com/steelmap/maptop/ppchangr.htm
Thanks to Carter Steel Guitars for that site.

Also, John Lacey has an excellent website that details a lot of history of the Emmons push-pull guitars. http://www.melmusic.com/laceyj/page02.html

After the push-pull, Emmons came out with the Emmons Legrande, their first all pull steel. Next came the Lashley Legrande by Emmons, then the Lashley Legrande II, followed by the Lashley Legrande III, which is identical to the Legrande II's, except that it has an added anti-detune feature which eliminates cabinet drop.

Hope this helps.
Lem
