About 1968 I went to see a package show staring Ray Price, Marty Robbins, Willie Nelson, and others. At one point in the show, Marty Robbins was going to sing "Don't Worry About Me." Jimmy Day was on stage furiously working on his pedals and rods. When he finished, Marty sang and Jimmy played.

Here is my question: at the time I had no idea what he was doing, but I wonder now if he might have been switching his pedal rods to play different strings/changes? Maybe something just broke and he was repairing it.

Any ideas?

I have no idea, but I'm glad it was Jimmy Day and not me.

It would suggest to me that it was a mechanical emergency. Live performance is not the place or time to be simply changing your setup...
