I just wanted to share my excitement - I'm playing a duo in 15 minutes with Hal Merrill, who's one of the most remarkable jazz steelers I've ever heard! I'm fortunate to get to accompany him on guitar, although I have to pay attention to what I'm doing as the music is tricky...

This gig is a great point for being able to read music - hard tunes I've never heard until our rehearsal. I'm indeed fortunate.

Absolutely! Hal is a good friend and a monster steeler! I've played keyboards with him many times, and we've shared licks. My pedal steel playing is more country and western swing. When pressed, he plays great country steel. He's still playing his old MSA.
