Yesterday I pulled out my old Curley dvd and although I have played it at least a 100 times it was probably a year since the last time. As always I was in awe of the amazing talent he possessed and exhibited. the more I listen I hear new nuances not heard before and realize what a chord genius he was as well as a master technician. IMHO should be required listening for everyone who loves steel guitar.

Hay, contact Mike Perlowin here on the forum - he has a DVD for sale of several shows Curly did - possibly what Billy is referring to here. You can find a mention of this by Mike in this thread:

I would recommend everything Curly ever did that you can get your hands on. He always took his playing off in his own creative directions not following the pack.

Between Curly Buddy and Hal your covered.

That would be Hal Rugg.. Yes he is in the same league as Curly Chalker and Buddy Emmons...

Curly Chalker DVD

I think that Mike Perlowin finally got rid of all the DVD's he produced of Curly.

He sent me a box to see through the GaSGA.

I have about 15 of these left.

If you are interested, the price is $18 including shipping in the lower 48.

Drop me an email

You could spend several lifetimes grokking Curly' s DVD and Buddy and Hal' s DVD! Great music, and great camera work on both.

I found his "More Ways To Play" record for only a few bucks on ebay a couple years ago. That's my favorite of his that I have so far. Many songs on the live DVD came from that album.

Don't forget that Curly was the staff steel player on Hee Haw for 13 years. If you have the RFD channel, they are still showing episodes with him every Sunday night.

Curly also did an album with Charlie McCoy. I can't remember the name of it right off hand but the whole album is on YouTube. I saved it to my favorites. Just go there and search up Curly and Charlie McCoy. You'll find it

Totally in love with everything Curly! Listening to Big Steel over and over, and Bill's DVD (Thank you!) is phenomenal.

Having trouble finding More Ways To Play, and Counterpoint... anyone that can point me in the right direction, or who is willing to share/sell?

Thanks again for this amazing find!

There's a very hard to find LP from 1977 by Mack Sanders with Chalker on steel here:

http://m2.canna.to/cpuser/links.php?action=popup&kat_id=5&fileid=443736

Mostly uptempo stuff like Walking The Floor, Stay All Night, Home In San Antone, Odds and Ends.

Curly takes a ride on nearly every song.

All Star group including Leon Rhodes, Jimmy Colvard, Buddy Spicher, Shorty Lavender, and Pig Robbins.

Produced by Tommy Allsup.

If I'm not mistaken... the DVD is still in stock at the Forum store. At least, it shows that it is.

It looks like this album is downloadable from the link, but every time I try, it takes me to Zippyshare that wants to make me download crap like a search app Chrome addon or something to speed up my PC!

Does anyone have a link to a straightforward download of the album only?

Are you referring to the Mack Sanders LP?

If so, do this:

let the Zippyshare link come up.

When you poke it, you will probably be offered something you don't want like an EXE file or some other weird web site.

Don't accept that, whatever it is. Close that window and go back to Zippyshare, repeatedly if necessary until you are offered "MaSand_ttb.rar". That's what you want from Zippyshare.

Accept that. Don't say yes to anything else.

That works for me, but I don't use Chrome.
