The High Desert Steel Guitar Club is delighted to announce that the “Steel Grits”, Prescott Arizona’s first-ever steel guitar show, held Sunday, January 15th at the historic Elks Theater of Prescott was a huge success! Our benefactor, the Agape House of Prescott, which provides housing for homeless families, received a sizable donation through our efforts. As well, a steel guitar scholarship, that includes a beautiful Justice steel guitar and one year of lessons, will be awarded to one very deserving individual.
A first-time show like this is never easy, and many thanks go out to the following who helped support our efforts to make it happen: steel guitarists Chuck Back, Jonathan Candler, Frank Carter, Bill Cunningham, Tommy Dodd, and David Wright. Thank you! And, to the accomplished musicians, who included Mark Abbott, and Mark Blom on fiddles, Chuck Back, and Dave Schreiber on leads, Skip Edwards, and Mary Denk on keys, Bill Cunningham, Jerome Vogel, Randy Candler, and Lawrie Beaver on bass’, Jeff Denk on acoustic, Mike Hawthorne on harmonica, as well as Dan Range, and Quincy Ahuja on drums. Thanks to Joe Naylor for providing emcee duties. We were also grateful for the many backup singers: Mary Denk, Jeff Denk, Mary Lata, Rebecca Hughes, and Denise Moore.
