This is my 1st post on this forum, so if my images are too large,go easy on me ! Shocked
Most people would agree that the stock pickup on the Morell 8, leaves something to be desired,so I decided to change mine to a Lace AlumniBar.
First,remove stock PUP....

Then,I made a paper template to figure out my shape and dimensions...

Looks ok...

I traced it on to this piece of metal stock, that my father in law gave to me..It's not pure brass,,its some kind of laminate....

Then cut it out with a band saw...Smooth the edges with fine files, then finer sand paper.

Time to route out the body,,its very important to secure the piece so it cannot move, and add tape and rags to preserve the finish...

All set.....

The rest in a second post....

Next I found this artwork and put it up on my computer....

I printed that image with a lazer printer on to a film called "Press n Peal" ,then use a hot iron to apply it to my plate..that plate was then etched in a liquid Ferric chloride,,rinsed thoroughly with water.Black paint was rubbed into the etchings, then the whole thing sealed with a clear sealer..

I did counter sink the holes for the attachment screws, then put it all together...

I have moved the volume pot on to the other side, since my original modification. This way,I can do volume swells with my pinkey finger.

End result is a much more balanced sound,,solid lows , strong highs.Super quite with a much louder output.[img][/img]

Nice piece of work. I have to do something similar to my Morrell 8 string. I have a single coil to install just a bit wider than the stock unit. May fit with a little filing. Still need to make the effort to do it.
