I have a Erni ball vp jr passive I have changed the micro switch but it doesn't have enough control of the volume. I would like to have a wider span between from no volume to full volume . I'm new to PSG Is it the pot in it or what? thanks Jerry

You might have a linear taper pot in there, and a pot with a logarithmic or audio taper (two different words for the same thing) might help.
Either call or email Jim Palenscar at Steel Guitars of North County, and check on pot availability.
You might first want to Google the part number of whatever part is in the pedal now.
If it's a 250K pot, you'll find better tone with the 470K that Jim sells.

Better yet, when you call Jim, order a new (or a used if he has one) Goodrich volume pedal. They are designed for use with PSG's. The Ernie Ball is designed for 6 string guitar players who stand up.

Here's the Buddy Emmons tuning chart, which has numbers similar to the Newman chart, but in cents rather than the incomprehensible and silly "Hertz" scale.
http://www.buddyemmons.com/TTChart.htm
NOTE: Later in life, Buddy abandoned this chart and tuned everything straight up except he flatted his thirds a bit

I've adopted a simpler chart that is probably similar to what Buddy used later: Everything to 0, except for the following notes tune between 4 and 6 cents flat (I don't get hung up on the exact number, just let the needle point in the right general direction): C#, D#, E#/F and G# (if you lower your Bs, the A# also goes flat 4-6).

I have a later Newman chart than bob's. Mine was made for the Peterson tuners and includes "modern" changes that were not common back when Jeff Newman created his charts (such as the 5th and 6th string lowers/splits). I've "shared" (as Peterson calls it) my Strobo Plus HD programs with quite a few forum members. It is based on the Newman settings referenced to "442.5Hz".

As soon as I get it in a form for the forum, I'll post it. Its in MSWord table form now. (e-mail me and I'll send it to anyone that wants it).

Here are my Jeff Newman/Peterson sweetened tunings at "442.5".
I have combined the separate Peterson "open" and "pedal/knee lever" programs into one tuner program. EXCEPT for the 4th string F# raise and the 4th string Eb lowers on the E9th and the 3rd string B lower on the C6th neck. These conflict with other open/raise note tunings so they are in a separate program. Its not a big deal as these rarely need to be tuned. There is a way to have two different frequencies in a program for the same note and I was sent one of these programs by another forum member but it turned out I was having problems tuning with that program so I had to quit using it.

There is no rule to tuning, as long as it sounds good and doesn't chase people away..

I can't praise Jack's tuning enough. Got my BenRom from sounding good (SE9/SP9) to sounding really sweet!
Do yourselves a favour! (BTW, Jack is ok with me singing his praises). You just need Peterson Connect.
Do it today!
