4 channel mixer, which one

I am thinking about getting one, steel-fiddle-banjo-keys keep me pretty busy. Looking for ways to simplify all of my AB boxes and switches.

Pre set EQ and Effects, just push the slider up and down and off you go.

ReaseJoy 4 looks like it could do the job, powered.

Thoughts?

Larry, best mixers I have ever used have been Mackies. Everytime I try something else, I always seem to gravitate back to the Mackies. Great preamps and high headroom. Especially for live venues. You could pick up a 1202 for next to nothing these days. They have a regular ac cord and not some walwart. With the mute buttons it would be easier than using sliders. They have a lot of headroom and the analog knobs which are handy for live stuff. If you're looking at a digital mixer, that new Mackie Prodx series is pretty cool. Saw it at Namm. Forgot about that one Fred but that's a great small form factor mixer. Got to buy a separate power supply for it though. Good digital mixer with analog pots for the volumes and main. That's the one I use for small gigs sometimes. I like the fact you can save different scenes for different gigs too.

I'm real curious if there are any of the 500 series rack enclosures used in studios that feature a mixer that also have effects capacity...I could see an API for one channel, a Neve for another, etc...

Expensive as heck, but, man, what a sound you'd get

I agree with Tom. The Mackie 1202 VLZ is a nice little mixer, readily available and at 100 bucks used is a good choice.

Behringer mixers - Bad choice! Had 2. Both failed in their first couple of uses.

Mackie mixers - Good choice! Replaced the bad Behringers.

I have a Behringer 1204 with effects coming today, will pay close attention to the tone. Thinking about running the steel straight and only fiddle, banjo and keys thru the mixer. Will know more by tonight.

Well that one did not work for me. Banjo to muddy and fiddle to bright even with extreme knob twisting. Also everything did not sound real, more processed. Off we go, I still like the idea so will try other units.
