Returned late Sunday evening after the weekend in Texarkana, Texas. Our forum member Henry Matthews has promoted the Okalawn Opry for Twenty-Five Years. This past Saturday night was the last night. As Henry related to me he has played Pedal Steel and Fiddle for all those Saturday nights except perhaps a half dozen times. That's a long time! Henry is an outstanding steel picker as well as fiddle player. Not too bad a singer as well. Had a SOLD OUT crowd. Lot's & lot's of great vocalist's. Each one performed two songs. Must have been 30 artist. The show was from 7:00 till 11:00 pm. Even tho Henry is a Emmons P/P guy he is currently playing a Black Emmons SKH D-10 and can he ever make that thing cry and talk to you. Playing thru a Peavey LTD 400 with SICA speaker. Fantastic sound. Henry is an outstanding guy with a big heart and lot's of friends and closing this venue down is hurting him very much. The crowds are just not coming anymore. It is a big Theater with lots of overhead, 500 plus seats. But as he said it has been a good run but all good things must come to an end. I added to that the old Bob Wills song, TIME CHANGES EVERYTHING. I wish Henry the very best in days to come. Your Friend, J.R. Rose

yes, Henry is a great guy, and was keeping that show going for over 2 decades, but people would rather go out of town, and drive to other venues, then support their own...well, I guess now they will have no choice but to drive if they want to see a good show...

Thanks very much guys for the nice compliments. Yes, we had a great run of 25 years and we had our show every Saturday night. We out lasted everyone of the Opry type shows around this area and was something I looked forward to every Saturday night. As J.R. said, Time Changes Everything so I figured it was time. We were all getting old anyway and I've got a few fishing years left. Not going to quit playing but will enjoy some of my Saturday nights off. Thanks again y'all.
