If this guitar were a dessert, it'd be a slice of New York cheesecake with raspberry drizzle: decadently rich, creamy, and an explosion to the senses. The first time we pulled this 1998 McCollum Meaghan out of the case and tuned it up, we were shocked by the sheer volume of the thing! And that was before we gave it new strings.
The voice is something straight out of Hollywood: huge and expansive, at times subtle and at others lavish, with bass notes that pop and treble overtones that hang in the air for great, long seconds. The Meaghan holds up famously well with a flatpick, but man oh man does it sing when a fingerstylist lays hands on her--the string-to-string separation is pianistic and crisp, and fingerstyle arrangements benefit greatly from the resounding clarity of the low end. Decked out in a gorgeous set of Brazilian Rosewood with striking vanilla sapwood at the edges, and a German Spruce top for silky-smooth sustain, this was one of the several guitars that Lance brought to the NAMM show over the years--and who wouldn't want to show off this powerhouse, this show stopper, this pièce de résistance with its slim neck profile and larger-than-life voice?
