I think this has got to be Roy:

I love the way he plays. It's pretty cool that he was also probably the greatest Uke player that ever lived.

You may be correct. There is something of Roy's trademark wackiness in their. The tone of the guitar could be his also. Its not my favourite steel guitar sound.

It could be Roy but to me, it sounds a bit too restrained to be him. It could be this 1962 album as detailed in MGM Labels Discography vol 2 (Prince Kalua and the Tropical Islanders). I note that MGM was in the vanguard of stereophonic LP production but the production sounds more contemporary than 1962. The moving panned lead lines sounds more like something from the 70s but I 'm no expert. Sorry about the long link. I'm no expert there, either.

I don't believe it is Roy.

The music is Hawaiian style & a bit more sophisticated than Roy Smeck's style.

Derrick Mau would probably know who the steel player is. ??

According to this it's Roy Smeck. 1962.

In general, I don't like Roy's wacky vaudeville style on lap steel, but I do like what he's doing on the clip posted. It fits the song well IMO.
