Most people are not aware that one of Europe's top rock bands includes a world class steel guitarist, Johan Jansen. The band is Any Vegetable, and they just put some songs from their new album Veg Out on YouTube.
Like a rock guitarist, Johan uses a effects to get the right sound for each song. When I first listened to their CD, I wasn't sure that I heard steel at all on some of the songs. Johan assured me that there's steel on every song, and sure enough once I tuned my ears to it I came to appreciate what he's doing.
The steel is really prominent in the songs selected for the videos. Check them out! _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

Hi Bob, the producer is Sebastiaan Bijleveld, a Dutch producer with a kind of Lanois-ears. He works a lot with musicians of Calexico. The CD is mastered in Nashville. Regards Johan

I got into the steel right off as it gets plenty country, and you can hear it well.
This stuff is great, and the production fantastic.
Sure enjoy being able to hear the steel done right. |

My-T-fine! Interesting timing and sounds. You could blindfold me, stick me in a 55-gallon drum (make that 75 g. mebbe) amd throw me overboard (don't get carried away) and I'd still guess that's a continental European band. Many of the parts lock up with each other unusually, kind of sparse. Like, unless that's an 24" snare, on "Havana" the drummer's playing a sort-of train beat partially on... a tom-tom. Which is so wrong you'd get so fired from any band in Nashville, except - it sounds really cool. Whatever you're doing wrong, keep doing it! |

Hi David, we had a very good laugh over your comment. This is excact the thing we hope for: Where everyone goes right, we go left. Our drummer Rene Creemers (http://www.renecreemers.com/ ) is famous for that
Cheers, Johan
