As expected, Mr. Tommy White slayed it on tonight’s Dolly 50 Years as an Opry member TV special. Killer solo on Muleskinner! Despite the fact that dude said “ah, fiddle now” to introduce a steel solo. Doh! But what was a Sho-Bud Christmas Tree amp doing behind Dolly during her Opry stage segments?

Wasn't Buck Trent on the show(I didn't watch)?

Buck Trent plays his electric banjo through a Sho-Bud
"Christmas Tree"amp.

Steve, Yes Buck Trent was on the show and now the amp being right there makes perfect sense. Thanks!

Tommy is one of my favorite players, beautiful and tasteful playing, fast as a lightning when needed, always dressed nicely, and a gentleman, and a great person overall.. it is always a joy to be around him, listen him play and talk to him , man has no ego, just a pure talent and class ... a real professional all the way

I agree 1000% with Damir. Tommy is such a credit to Steel Guitar -- a CLASS ACT all the way. I only wished they would have had him EQ'd as good as his playing. Happy Holidays to all !!. P.H.

I think Buck deserves a huge amount of recognition. He created a style of playing with Porter that, to my knowledge, has never been duplicated. His electric banjo with tuners had elements of both lead guitar and pedal steel sounds. His work on songs like "I've Enjoyed As Much Of This As I Can Stand" (video below) was a great fit for the song. I find it strange that no one has picked up on this style and carried it on. I think Buck is a musical genius.

Never thought of Buck as a musical genus. But his work on Carrol County Accident and several other Porter tunes from that era were really cool. And to my ears a perfect fit for the songs.

And Tommy White's pretty ok to. Laughing

Let’s give Harry an David Jackson creative credit for making it possible for Buck Trent too create a banjo string bending style.
