That's a cool "chopping block" design. Where are they made?

Hi David,
Melbert steels are hand made by Bob Allen of Livingston, Tennessee. He made one for me earlier this year ( as pictured). Mine is more of his typical design except that I needed 7 strings for my A6 tuning.
He is a wonderful guy and always does a great job and keeps the buyer informed all through the process.

Morgan, my 8 string looks something like that design, He made it from peace of wormy maple. Is your 7 string a console model?

David, Bob Allen can be reached at Melbert Guitars 461 Rock Crusher Rd. Livingston Tn. 38570 or you can contact him from this web sight. He put the picture up for me and his contact info is at the bottom of the picture. This is my second instrument from him, He made my 8 string a few years back. He builds quality guitars and as Morgan said keeps you informed, and gives you choices.

Much obliged...perhaps when I get around to wanting a new steel I'll call him.

That's a nice steel guitar Wayne. It reminds me of the old New Yorker models. I believe they were made by Rickenbacker.
My 7 string Melbert steel, shown above, is strictly a lap steel. No legs.

yes it does David. I just leave it up so all I have to do is pull up a chair.

Your right Morgan, In talking with Bob Allen about a design, He brought this out and it was a quick Yes. the design did remind me of the National New Yorker, which by the way was my first Steel.

Bob has built two 8 string steels for me over the years.

You will enjoy his customer service, frequent and welcome communication and superb value.

It's nice to know that there are craftsmen who do business this way!

That's great - I bet we all have a lap or console steel ready to play...like I do.

Do you tune it like the way you mentioned in the original post?

Yes David. Both instruments are tuned the same. I had Bob Allen built the 6 string so I could leave it the church to play with the gospel group. and have the 8 string set up a home. [E,G#,B,C#,E,G#,B,E]
