Latch Lake Bar

Has anyone here used a Latch Lake Bar w/ Dynamic Diffusion Technology? I can't tell if it is some type of metal or plastic. Any opinions?

It's a steel bar and according to Latch Lake it has been "case hardened to more than 60". I've tried both versions of the bar and prefer the regular bar myself -- I think its smoother on the strings.
