my whole life, or at least my steel guitar playing part, my favorite playing was done on "He stopped living her today" and some other George's songs ... For over 20 years I thought it was played by Buddy, just to find out today it was actually Pete Drake who played those beautiful and soulful licks on those songs...I think I'm going to buy me few of Pete's albums and pay little more attention to that man, since he was actually my steel guitar hero, without me even realizing that... _________________ www.steelguitarsonline.com |

Pete Drake---My Bluest Day (1964)
This tune was written by Hal Rugg, but there doesn't seem to be a recording of him playing this tune. ???

I had this exact experience! A lot of tunes I love and am deeply influenced by turned out to be Pete Drake. I thought, " how the heck can I love a player's playing so much and not even know who he is?" Pete played on tons of songs, I saw a list once and was just stunned. The dude was a giant. _________________ RICK ABBOTT

thats the thing, I always knew Pete by his "talking steel guitar" stuff, and was shocked to learn that he was the genius behind those beautiful steel guitar fills behind George Jones that actually made me fall in love with George Jones, and his music...man learns something new every day... _________________ www.steelguitarsonline.com |

for over 20 years I believed it was Buddy Emmons, and I wouldn't say I was disappointed, but more shocked, when I found out it was Pete, and not Buddy, who played it... _________________ www.steelguitarsonline.com |

FWIW, Pete subbed for Buddy with the ET band for a few months, I heard him on the Opry a couple times with Earnest. I don't remember the time frame but it was the time Buddy did a back flip off a 2nd story balcony, and injured both ankles. _________________ Bill Ford S12 CLR, S12 Lamar keyless, Misc amps&toys Sharp Covers
