Due to a confluence of circumstances we are retiring the Austin Steel Guitar Co-op. The organization will henceforward be known as the Austin Steel Guitar Club. We are on hiatus until the new year; our plan is to reorient with input from all interested parties. Please contact me via the Forum, or here below, to give input.

I know other steel groups have problems at this time... I'm very interested in hearing what works for other outfits. Your input is appreciated.

Stephen, Our Southeast Texas SGC, in Katy, has the problem of not drawing the fan base (spectators). It has turned into more of a jam session with more players than spectators. We used to draw several dozen fans, but it has dwindled to around 10. We usually get 3 to 5 steel players, plus the core backup band. Maybe that's our mission. A jam where players enjoy the session and exchange of ideas, and not a concert? We also have a nice group of vocalists who join us, making a nice jam.
We have to remember that we don't advertise anywhere but the Steel Guitar Forum, where only players go. Maybe we need to post notices elsewhere, like Face Book, Twitter, etc?

Jim, we'd be happy to be there, where you are. Our meetings have dwindled to where there are more in the backup band than in the jam. Also, we maintained a pro backup band, so we (mostly me) had to cough up money to make it worth their while. Unsustainable... I always enjoy going to Katy when I can, and I hope to make some more of them now that time has freed up.

We posted on FB and here. Kept a page (until recently, when it got pulled by the original owner) with photos, etc. We've had some core members leave, others have been gigging more... and others have lost interest. Getting tired of trying to push a wet noodle upriver.
