I'm thinking of replacing the 12" speaker in my Roland Cube 80X with an Eminence Neodymium 12" Deltalite. Just wondering, given the tight space, if this speaker would fit.
If anyone has changed speakers in a Cube 80X please give me your input.
Thanks, Alan

If it will fit, I would seriously consider the Travis Toy model 12" speaker, as its for Pedal Steel Guitar.

I've tried a couple of the Eminence EPS 12C speakers and unlike the 15" model they all are too bright and more like what a Telecaster player would like.

Another possibility might be the Sica 12".. great sounding speaker and very reasonably priced.. (I put one in a Bandit 65)

Any standard 12 inch speaker will NOT fit in a Roland Cube XL80 as Roland makes their speakers 11-1/5 inch. I tried this and ended up making the Roland Cube into a head and using a seperate speaker cab.

You could try routing the speaker cavity bigger but it would be one heck of a job to accurately cut 1/4 inch around the speaker cutout.

I now own the Cube 80 head conversion that Len referred to and if you are not pleased with the performance of the stock speaker, this may be a viable alternative. I have used the unit with both a 12" Telonics loaded cab and a 15" cab equipped with an Eminence EPS 15C and both worked well (the 15" sounded especially good).

Hi Dave, glad you are using the Cube 80XL head as it has power with nice reverbs and delays, etc. Like you mentioned using different speaker cabs is an advantage. Also, the 80XL has an extension speaker output jack so you could run 2 speakers if wanted.

FYI, I recently purchased a used Roland Cube 100 and
like it a lot for rehearsals and small venues. The 15"
speaker sounded good but I thought an Eminence PSG
15c might be even better, as well as lighten the load. It
did weigh somewhat less and the jury is still out on if it's
a significant improvement. Splitting the amp from the
speaker is an operation I'm going to be performing on
several of my combo amps.

Hey Len, you are so right. When Roland said they made a special designed speaker for the Cube 80XL, they weren't referring to it's performance as much as they were referring to it's size. I have a Celestion 12" I tried to drop in but it will not fit. It hits the amp chassis. I just ordered a Roland 12" replacement. I don't want to split the head from the speaker cause I bought it to fly with. I want it to stay a compact combo.
Thanks, Alan
