I've got an old Nashville 400 to sell. I replaced the reverb tank last year and the new tank sounds great. I put in the Ken Fox chips a while ago, still probably have the original chips if someone wanted. I also have a short 1/4 cable jumping from the preamp out to power amp in. There is a common issue with 400's and this was the easy fix for it. Works great, sounds great, looks like a nashville 400. For now I'd prefer to sell it locally.
I'm in Brooklyn NY.
$375 or best offer. |

What does the 1/4 cable jumping from the preamp out to power amp in fix?

Hey Wade, thanks for asking.
I'm no expert but I had this problem where the amp would cut out completely for no reason.
Apparently the normal through for the effects loop goes bad on these over time and you can "bypass" it by putting a cable in place of the normal.
Here's a thread where someone had a similar issue:

It seems some people have had good luck replacing the jacks, or just cleaning them out. I haven't had time for that and the cable worked fine. |

Yeah--one of those jacks has a normally closed contact on it that is intended to open the circuit when a plug is inserted. It can get bent or dirty, resulting in an open circuit. Plugging a jumper cable restores the signal path. It is a common and harmless condition and the jumper is a simple fix. |

Thanks Matthew, I have a Nashville 400 with some tone loss and was just wondering if this would fix that issue, but it looks like its back to the drawing board. I didn't mean to hijack your post just needed a little help. The Nashville 400 is still my favorite steel amp. _________________ Record & Tape Restoration Specialist |

Just for the record, there was not a "common problem" with the pre amp out/power amp in loop on any Peavey amp. As with any mechanical components, they need lubrication occasionally. :) |
