Hey all,

As I continue diving more into the back neck, I'm coming to terms with the fact that I have a couple of interesting changes on my Sho~Bud's C6 copedent leftover from a previous owner. I've browsed around a bit looking for any players that might have these changes so I can check out how they use them, but so far haven't really seen any matches. Obviously I'm messing around with it all and coming up with some stuff...

But - Anybody ever seen stuff like this before or know of any other players that use them? Particularly the stuff happening on P4 and my LKL lever seems to differ from most C6 setups I see...

I'm not much of a C6 player, but it seems to me that having RKL raise A to A# and LKL drop A to G# would be more useful, not to mention more mainstream, than what they're doing now.....
I like the changes on P4--they would work for me better than the A's to B raises...

Just my opinion.....Winking....and, in the interest of full disclosure, these changes are what I have on my 6th neck....

Your P4 is often on a knee lever. I've heard people refer to it as a "reverse P6". It gives you an F7 chord, and it also acts like the B pedal on E9th's middle G# string.

Your RKL helps with making melodies. It also makes CM7 or Am9 by itself, and a D13 with P5.

Your LKL works like the A pedal on E9th. Use it with P4 to get E9th-like licks in a lower register.

Thanks fellas, everything helps and I'm taking it all in as I go. I probably won't go messing with the copedent much as I'd rather just get seat time in and learn the neck better as is, but I'll keep the ideas you mentioned in mind Curry.

Bob - thanks much for your response, that's helpful and I had noticed the "7" quality dropping the 2nd string gives, which is useful, and I'm sure further exploration with that pedal will yield some fun results. Also, funny you mention the idea of getting E9 licks on this C6 setup, because the more I get used to what's happening, the more I see the similarities as you mentioned, especially when the LKL G to A raise gets used.

Anyways, thanks for the responses so far guys... seems like maybe there aren't a ton of players who have this setup anyways, so might be tough to find any recorded examples... but maybe that's a good thing!

If you're in the business of adding anything, a 4th lever raising string 3 to C# is a useful change which is sort of standard (as much as anything is).

Thanks Ian, duly noted. If I get ahold of some parts from Michael Yahl or etc. I might be into adding some things, and I could see that being useful as a change...

The C to C# is my most used C6th lever, as is the E to F on my E9th. They are the same thing!

I'd tune your RKL so that it only pulls to Bb. I'd also move that rod on LKL so that it pulls string 3 C to C#. Even if you got more parts later those would be good places for those changes.
