I recently purchased a second hand L-120 on ebay which is in good condition, works very well and I like it very much (no problems there)

It does appear to have some form of modification to it, by way of a hole drilled out of the bottom plate which allows the roddy thing with the stringy bit to poke through - maybe to somehow allow some extra sweep in the pedal

Seems to work well, as I say, no complaints here. I'm just wondering whether this is a common modification, or perhaps actually a factory feature of early L-120s? Does anyone have any experience with this?

I have two L-120 VPs. They both have this hole. I think it is a normal clearance hole.

Thanks Tom. I was wondering, as I've seen some L-120s without the hole

And this one looks hand dremeled, not factory machined

The hole mentioned is to allow for the string pedestal to protrude when in full down/on position in order to allow for the full rotation of the pot in the low profile models. The standard profile version does not need it due to its increased travel. The new pedal (aka "Omni" at this point) will not need it as the pot collar diameter is smaller and should be available sometime early next year.

thanks Jim (especially for the correct terminology) I did a quick google image search last light and saw that yes nearly all L-120s have this hole, and they are invariably oblong rough-cut looking holes. So mine is not a modified pedal, which is interesting to know. I did find a few pictures of L-120s without the hole though ....
