The San Antonio Steel Guitar Association hosts monthly jams to provide an environment for current and future steel players to mingle, exchange ideas, and play in front of our backup band. Our season runs from Feb through Oct and our sessions are well attended by both spectators and steelers. We have free steel guitar lessons for those new to this beautiful instrument.
We also host a yearly event called the San Antonio Steel Guitar Association Family Fest – which is an all day musical event featuring local bands, food, silent auction, 50/50 tickets, and the drawing of the winning ticket for the autographed Fender guitar. This year, George Strait was kind enough to sign our guitar, along with a number of other well-known artists.
We were fortunate this year to have Steve Bissell and our local cable company produce a half-hour weekly television program featuring our monthly jams.
At the end of our season, all monies collected at our monthly jams, as well as monies generated by events such as the Family Fest is donated to our designated charity - the Warrior and Family Support Center at Fort Sam Houston here in San Antonio. This year, thanks to a lot of folks who donated time, items, and money, we were able to donate $7,000 to this worthy cause. https://www.bamc.amedd.army.mil/military/wfsc/
