Just reading a copy of a PSGA newsletter from 1976 and mention is made of Pete Drake having a 'Tammy Wynette' pedal on her recordings.

Now what on earth is that?

Cleve, I am not certain but I am pretty sure that would refer to the "E" to "F" change. The lick was with A and B pedals down slide down 4 frets releasing pedal B and engaging "F" lever and repeat creating a 5/3/55/3 interval voicing within the chord. The first time I recall hearing that lick was on Tammy Wynette recordings and it was pretty much a signature lick on her songs. Recall "I Don't Wanna Play House"? Then again, I could be wrong.

I know that he had a single pedal thad did both his B and C changes, like in the kick-off to "D-I-V-O-R-C-E" -- but I don't know if that's it.

Jerry has it right.

The "raise Es to F", which is now standard, was unknown in 1967 when Pete Drake cut "I Don't Wanna Play House" with Tammy.

Pete invented an unusual way to get the triad between the open and pedals down position.
It is the same triad we now get with AF.

Pete used it on many recordings, I believe "I DOn't Wanna Play House" was the first.

Lloyd Green was impressed by the change, but figured out a simpler way to implement it.
Lloyd's method is what is standard today.

Lloyd was kind enought to share the story with the Forum here :

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I thought it raised E to F#, B to D and G# to A. It was the same as doing A+F, but the bar was 1 fret lower.

I thought it was Pete Drake with a E-F# change. Listen to Your Good Girls Gonna Gd Bad to see what I am thinking.

On an old S-11 I had in the 70's I only had two knee levers. One lowered the 2nd and 9th strings a half, the other lowered 4 & 8 a half. What I'd do sometimes was just use the C pedal along with the E to Eb (D#) knee lever which would lower against the raise on string 4 so you'd get the same as using the A pedal and F knee lever....Have a good 'un.
