I would like to share with forum members my efforts to improve a JAGARD lap steel,(these are called by several names) I bought this lap steel many years ago and it sat in a cupboard most of it's life. First i replaced the plastic nut with one i made out of brass stock, then removed the tail/piece /bridge with the saddles and fitted one made of Aluminium angle and brass. The stock pickup seemed reasonable measuring around 8-5K ohm.,so was retained.
The result was surprising and certainly worthwhile, more sustain , and brighter tone, my only niggle being the 21" short scale. I hope this is helpful to other owners.

I did the nut mod on mine. Sounds better.

I may, in fact, be nuts. However, I am screwed onto the right bolt... Jesus!
