Topic: My new Williams D12 |

Picked up my new Williams D12 8x8 from Bill Rudolph a few weeks ago. Birdseye maple, Telonics pickups. This guitar just plays incredibly well. Tone with excellent string separation is stunning. It's just on another level. It's about 40 lbs, very light for a D12, and it's beautful!! I've got an extended E9 on front with A and E on the bottom. C6 is the old standard 10 string tuning(G on top) plus D and F# on strings 2 and 1. This is the younger sister of my 2015 Williams blond curly maple D12, one for my studio, one for gigs. Bill says he's never built another steel with the F# on top of C6th tuning other than my 2. I love it. Not sure if it makes me smart or dumb...., oh well, just experiment and please yourself. Can't say enough about Bill Rudolph. He's built 3 steels for me, all great guitars.

Greg, very nice. Love the burnt orange. I tried to figure out a way to go with one 12 string neck, but I just love the C6th too much to compromise all those great sounds!

Yeah, it's a compromise whether you go one neck U12 or Ext E9th. I opted to optimize and extend my most used tuning, E9, without compromising the standard 10 string layout. The D-12 you have doesn't seem to compromise much of anything!
I really like the compact body of the keyless but it doesn't leave much space for Bill to fit all those changes in there.

Greg, You're right, I didn't compromise at all. No more room underneath for anything. Don't think I could add 9th pedal or additional inside/outside knees even if I wanted to. It weighs the same as the keyed Williams D10 I had. I figured if I could carry that guitar around, why not go all the way with the D12.

Beautiful! I miss my D-12 sometimes too, but then I remember how long it took to change strings!
Bill builds great guitars.

The keyless makes changing strings alot easier than it used to be. Also just about eliminates the hysteresis issue. I've got pitch return comps on both necks but haven't had to use them.
