What a lovely rich sound, I'm sure Nick will be over the moon, I hope to get to see it one day. Cheers Dave. |

I am knocked out with the beauty and sound of my new Ben-Rom, named 'Lorelei'. Great playing from Dale, as usual!
Lorelei was a mythical German beauty who, rather like the Sirens in Greek legend, lured sailors onto the rocks on the river Rhine with her singing voice.
Ever since I heard Red Rhodes on James Taylor's 'Sweet Baby James', the voice of the pedal steel lured me and I've been hooked ever since. Half a lifetime later, I'm in the fortunate position to have a new guitar built for me, and Bent was the maker I chose because his workmanship, reputation, attention to detail and customer service seemed second to none. His work is on YouTube for everyone to see and hear.
I hope Lorelei gets shipped sometime next week, so I can take delivery before the next meeting of our local steel guitar group in North Yorkshire.
The guitar is a standard Emmons set up, 3 + 5, with the 4th pedal set up as a Sigler pedal, converting E9 to a usable six-string C6 on strings 4-9.

That was quite a write-up. I thank you Nick (Alan)
At this point I wish to say that Nick has been a wonderful customer to deal with. He and I have stayed in close touch via email from before the start of the build until the steel leaves my house, and beyond. It has been a pleasure to work with you! Now we will cross our fingers and hope that all goes well on the journey. I will try to get it shipped off next Tuesday. _________________ BenRom Pedal Steel Guitars

All I can say in response is that Bent been fantastic throughout. It can't be easy building a pedal steel in Canada when the customer is in Newcastle, England. Bent was in touch constantly, with photos of timber, how the staining would look, the build as it progressed and, of course, the acid test, a run through by Dale and a public demonstration, via YouTube.
I had originally thought I'd like a 'monochrome' guitar - with a black stain on the wood and a black-and-white fretboard. Bent doesn't do b-n-w fretboards and, when he showed me, via an emailed photo, what a black stain would do to the beautifully figured bird's eye maple, his tactful suggestion that a honey blonde finish would be better was one I had to agree on!!
I couldn't be happier. I just want it safe with me, at home now.
If anyone is considering having a pedal steel guitar built, I would strongly suggest they consult with Bent as well as other makers they may be considering.
Dave I do hope we can meet up someday to compare BenRoms. I know from your YouTube and British Steelies posts that your playing is way above my standard - but, one day, a BenRom duet would be something!!
