After a 8 year hiatus with the "Steel" decided to take up the Soprano Ukulele after my Son got one about a month ago to take on his trips, rather than a full size 6 string. I couldn't put it down for days, 'til he took it away. Any how, I got me a Soprano Uke of my own this past week, and have stuggled away with my ham hock hands. Watching some you tube videos of Hawaiian music, I came across some Rick Alexander videos, along with Jerry Byrd's. My oh my oh my, What a talent Rick was, course we always knew of Jerry's talents and the many others that play straight steel in this world of ours. I gotta' admit, I've missed the "Steel" and to hear Rick play made me realize that at my advanced age I'm better off playing three or four chords on the uke and howling along with it. In my opinion, nothing in this world sounds as nice as a straight steel. Be it Hawaiian, Swing Western, Country or Jazz. Keep up the good work as I and many others fade away. Jay |
