So here's a weird one-
The tone knob on my Stringmaster D8 goes from bassy on 1, trebly in the middle, and back to bassy on 10.
What gives? I've never run across this problem. I did just get it back from the shop for a pickup rewind |

Hi Miles
Does the problem occur on both necks?
Maybe the shop has put things back together incorrectly. Or wired up the tone pot wrong . I've never seen that problem before...Jerry |

The symptoms described points towards incorrect wiring of the tone pot. Having the capacitator wired between output of pickup and viper of the potmeter while the outer ends of the pot are wired to ground would bleed all highs to ground in both outer positions creating the bassy sound mentioned.
If it is only the tone that is incorrectly wired it should be an easy fix for someone with a little electrical/soldering knowledge.
