Heard this on the way home today. Sweet Sadie by the Stylistics - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXFY6pe-oXo

I remember playing this song in the USAF Band about 40 years ago. With fresh ears today, I noticed the steel guitar with a flanger.

Any idea who would be playing steel? According to Wikipedia, this was recorded at Sigma Sound Studios in Philly. Instrumentation was by MFSB of "TSOP - The Theme from Soul Train" fame.

Although Weldon Myrick is the first guess because of his diverse work including the Pointer Sisters, All Music (which is absolutely NOT infallible) credits a Tom Kennery, a name not familiar to me.
This was raised before here and I don't recall that anything more conclusive came up.

And --- I am assuming that the Spinners song Sadie in your link is indeed what you intended.
