Had some problems with my Gibson BR-9 recently that I'm trying to sort out.

There are a few problems that I'm trying to sort out:

1. low output volume
2. tone functioning as volume instead of tone
3. Scratchy pots
4. EMI noise

Taking the cover off, I saw that the original mounting for the pickups was seriously misaligned; the polepieces were not directly under the strings. That should be an easy fix; there is enough space to remount the screw holes in the proper position. So I decided to move on to issue #2.

The tone control function is more troublesome. Reading online that it may be the capacitor had finally shorted, I desoldered it and used alligator clips to connect to the tone control. This didn't seem to do anything, and in fact just seemed to create more noise. Could it be the tone pot that somehow died?

I used some Deoxit F5 drops to flush both controls, which eliminated the scratchiness, but could that have affected the function of the OEM tone pot? I ordered a new 500K tone pot to see if it would help.

Here's the schematic I drew from photos of the controls:

Once I get these tackled I'll try to tackle the EMI noise issue.
