This is an alternative take on the first verse of Jeff Newman's instructional course, "Remington Ride," which can be obtained directly from Jeffran College of Steel Guitar.
Some really crazy bongo playing on Herb's recording - jeez, I always thought this was a Western Swing number...

I have that course from Jeff Newman and will take a closer look. Thanks for the reminder Jim and Frank.
Btw, Freddie King did a great version:

It pretty much has to be played at the 2nd fret, which is why the weird key (C#). I play it in E on my D6th guitar:

There is a D6th tuning on E9th, with the B pedal and the 2nd string lowered to D. Skip strings 3, 4 and 8. Then you can play those open string bounces in the key of E. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

And it lays out nicely, with the string bounces, at the 2nd fret on the C6 neck (key of D). |
