So we entered a club and they had a nice stage and a very nice sound system. 7 or 8 mic stands with 58's on them. .
The sound guy, older , really nice guy comes over and sets up mics on everything, ok, I don't have any problem with that.

Gig starts, huh ? no sound check.

Two songs in I left the stage ( band still playing ) and walked across the room to the sound booth, told the really nice guy to take all the instruments and especially the BASS out of the monitors which are killing us with fold back volume and feedback. The Bass was just plain driving the nails out of the floor. He says oh ok, I thought you would like it like that.

uhh..NO.

So after doing this for over 4 decades I believe this to be the first time that we had a sound guy run sound on every instrument and NOT do a sound check or a monitor check.

You now that old phrase, "live long enough" ?

The house sound guy is a double-edged sword IMO.. I've had really good ones, but also some really bad ones.

If I don't already know the guy (or have heard from some other band that he's good) I usually tell them to just turn my monitor off. Nothing is way better than some screwed up mix that you can't get his attention to get him to change.. Smile
