Roy had a very cool, individual style. His group, the Whippoorwills, could sound like an instrumental Manhattan Transfer. I dig the funky bossa he plays here.

I like the fact that he plays a Fender acoustic. They did not have the best reputation, I believe.

I love Roy Lanhams playing...I bought one of his records back in the 60s at a hardware store...mainly because it had a picture of his red Fender Jaguar on the cover..haha and at that time I had a Jazzmaster. But when I put this record on I was blown away...I worked hard to learn his version of "We'll be Together Again". I talked to Carco Clave once and told him that his playing had a lot of Roy's influence, at least to my ear. He said that actually Roy was a big influence on his style...the chord melody style, and Carco told me about another recording that Roy made, that I eventually found Sizzling Strings...he would go from a Wildwood Flower type of song, to a brilliant rendition of "Brazil", which is another one of my favorites that he played. Never would have thought he played with Sons of the Pioneers...Thanks for posting that interview.
