We don't have a feature scheduled... more time to jam! Rose suggested bringing a lick or trick to share... so that's a theme. Bring an armpit guitar, we won't have one, so we can rotate that duty as well... I know a lot of you do that (looking at Randy Boyd!).
The location is our usual haunt:
290 West Club
12013 U.S. 290W
Austin, TX 78737
(512) 288-0808
... and our backup musicians will be:
Charlie Irwin bass
John Chandler drums
290's got their great burgers (and more) again, so come hungry. Downbeat's at 2pm, but come early to eat and schmooze with steel players etc. _________________ Too much junk to list... always getting more. |

Man, great time! Rose made it in off the road... new HOF'er Neil Flanz took pictures (more later on that)... we got a new guitar player, Bill Starrett... welcome aboard Bill! Others in attendance... Herb Steiner, Emmett Roch, John Russell, Geoff Queen, and Adam Przybla. Note: 290 Grill kitchen needs an operator, we did not get burger! The Sonic was down the road and all was well... great jam everyone! Next month is Larry Toliver! Should be Sept 18th, more later. _________________ Too much junk to list... always getting more. |

One of our best jams in terms of participation and skill levels! I had to notice that a great majority of the players are all working professionals, as is the band. So there was that shared experience collegiality going on as well.
With seven pickers plus lead guitar, in the interest of staying fresh we limited players to one full solo each lest things get out of hand, and everyone was up to the task with interesting variations on whatever theme we chose, whether it was country, western swing, or pop standard. Five pedal steels (2 Emmons PP, 1 Sho-Bud Professional, 1 Zumsteel, 1 GFI), and 2 Fender Stringmasters.
We do have an excellent rhythm section, and Bill Starrett is always a pleasure to play with, a welcome addition to the crew, guys I've known and played in bands with for decades. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |
