Just came across this receipt for my used Super Pro that I bought in 1984 at Music Mart in Atlanta. I drove up from Gainesville, Florida, where I was living at the time because they had 2 used D10's in stock: the Super Pro and a Dekley. I played the Dekley first and then switched to the Super Pro and as soon as I played the Sho~Bud, my girlfriend at the time said, "Now THAT sounds like Nashville". So that's the one I bought. Cost me all of $900 at the time. Think I sold it for double that, about 25 years later when I started getting more interested in guitars with metal necks. But it served me very well for a long, long time. Glad to find this receipt tonight. I understand that the Music Mart is long since gone.

Yes, Music Mart is gone. It was the only place to find a collection of steel guitars in the Atlanta area. I purchased a Sho-Bud Maverick from them.
Plus a bunch of music and strings over the years.
Wayne Stowers was the main guy to see. I believe he is still playing in the Area. Although I have not lived there for 15 years. |

| Yep, The Music Mart always had a big selection of steel guitars on the floor. Wayne Stowers was indeed the man to see there. We lost Wayne a few years ago, and we all have fond memories and lots of stories because of him. |

I spent many an hour there trying out different guitars I'd never see otherwise. More music and tab for steel than most other stores put together as well. Wish they were still around!

The only other place for PSG was "Rhythm City" in Buckhead who sold ShoBud. I ordered my first PSG there, a natural colored LDG. That was in 1978,
Some of you might remember the owner George Luther. He was a card. People swore he had a button under the counter to trigger a phone ring during negotiation. I did some trade in on my PSG, so I am not sure what I paid. I am sure it was more than I should have paid. Here is my Shobud.

Jim I paid more for my LDG than you did for your Super Pro; more than 400.00 more. I wish I knew then what I know now.

Jim,
It was new. Being left handed I had to order it.
I went to look at buying a right handed birds-eye Maverick, and the owner talked me out of it.
He said I would be better off ordering a left handed guitar. Good, honest advice. I think I did get a volume pedal and pack-a-seat, and Dunlop bar also for that money.

Jim,
Being able to go out and choose through a bunch of lefty guitars is a luxury us southpaws just don't have. The internet has helped, but then you are not able to play the instrument before purchasing.
I have more than my share now, and will pass them on to some Lefty to hopefully make better music than me.

Music Mart was my go to store from about age 14 until it closed except the 4 years I was away in the Corps. Wayne Stowers, the manager, was an old family friend. I am glad I got to play with him in later years at the steel shows. I miss him still. And every Christmas I think about his clever hand drawn Christmas Cards that usually only musicians understood.
