Recording a new podcast with Alan Akaka tonight. Any questions you want me to ask him?

Yes Troy...what advantage does he see in tuning the lowest (8th) string on an eight string C6th tuning to a low C note (an octave below the sixth string)?

I usually tune this eighth string to a G (and the seventh string to Bb for a "C13th" tuning).

Also the difference in diameter between that seventh string and the really fat eighth string (.068 for low C) can create quite a bit of bar rattle in the lower fret region.

Thanks for your consideration of this.

A low C string .068 for low C# is what I use. It use to be C and I haven't experienced any Bar rattle ever.

Maybe you need a heavier bar. Try a Dunlop 920 or apply more pressure.

Just my experience. Hope that helps.
