I saw this product recently on the UK's version of Dragon's Den on BBC TV. The inventor was seeking financial backing to take his product to market, and when he explained was it was I thought it was a rather good idea.

The product is the Lightlead by Iconic Sound. It is an analogue fiber optic guitar cable with lifetime guarantee. Here are a couple of photos of the product from the Iconic Sound web site.

This is a link to the web site, which provides a better description of the product than I can provide and includes videos. It must be borne in mind that the cable is a relatively new idea, and as yet no retail price has been announced. http://www.iconicsound.com/about-us

I'm not sure how enamored I am of adding a pair of modems to the signal chain (even if it's analog, you're still modulating and demodulating light). For long cable runs, perhaps it makes sense

Richard, "pricey plus".

I've worked with "cutting edge" technology for years (including NASA Apollo projects) and accept new technology. But, I don't see this as an asset for the steel guitar.

Like most "audiophile" items it will have a limited acceptance in some applications.

"tired copper wire technology". Darned old tired copper wire.

Great, two more devices with two more batteries, more expense. And yet another device that proposes "superior sound" capability. No one method is superior. Every sound chain has to be tuned with the right device in the right place to achieve one's desired sound.

That said I am a gadget lover and would try a pair if they were say on price par with a 20'long premium guitar cable.

Looks like a solution in search of a problem.

I work with fibre patch cables quite a bit (think computer networking applications) ...and they are quite fragile - not sure they would stand up to the rigors of a music event unless they were over-manufactured to withstand the abuse they would get on stage.
