Sho~Bud never used flocking but Emmons did.
Whenever I redo an old Emmons, I always re-flock it. The flocking can hide a multitude of sins. Usually when you redo an old steel there are numerous extra holes under the hood. I usually glue some toothpicks in the holes, sand them down smooth and then re-flock.
You can buy a nice re-flocking kit from Constantines Wood Center.

It's really simple to do.

After removing all hardware, I stick whole toothpicks in the holes I want to remain (so I can find them after flocking) and fill the ones that I want covered.

Then, either spray or brush on a thin layer of adhesive. The flocking material comes in a shaker canister (much like powder sink cleanser used to - think Ajax or similar). Just sprinkle the flocking material liberally to cover the area on which the adhesive was applied and wait for an hour.

After that turn the guitar on end and jiggle it so all the excess flocking powder falls out and collect it for future use........done!

Not that difficult, but you need to lay out several full sheets of newspaper and don't do it near your wife's new carpeting.

A flocking kit will come with a bag of flocking material in the color of your choice and a small plastic squeeze bottle with which you squirt the flocking.

After filling unwanted holes and sanding smooth, I insert safety matchsticks into the holes I want to keep.

I then brush paint the undercarriage with a slow-drying paint (I like Rustoleum) and while it's still wet I squirt the flocking material into the paint, liberally. I mean, I put it on there Wink.

Then I let it sit and dry. Next day I turn the cabinet over the newspaper and tap it gently from the top all over to shake loose all the material that didn't stick to the paint. Which I then put back into the flocking bag. I then hit the undercarriage with canned air or maybe the compressor at a very low pressure.

Then remove the matchsticks and I'm ready to go with the reassembly.

It seems Tony and I were typing at the same time... great minds, etc.

I use paint because I'm referring to reflocking an Emmons guitar. If paint is used as an adhesive, it should be a color close to the flocking.

BTW: Don't forget to plug up the cross shaft holes in the front and back aprons. No need to get flocking material in them. If you do get the powder in them take the appropriate size ream and hand spin it to clean out the unwanted material.

I'm feeling a bit obtuse, but I can't find a phrase in this thread whose initial letters are WTF. I know it's a joke, but WTF?
