A friend of mine and beginner steeler bought a Sierra S-10 about 20 years old. It sounds really good through my Evans, the knee levers play real good but the floor pedals are a real bear to play. The pedals have 3 holes to put the connecting rod in. I have them in the hole that will puts the pedals closest to the floor. Is there something I need to look for or is she just out of luck without a major overhaul?
Any help will be appreciated. thanks

I think the purpose of the 3 holes on the pedals is to give you a choice of leverage so you can adjust the pedal to the feel you want. I have got all mine set on the middle hole, for what its worth.
It sounds like she has them set for the hole nearest the player, and that probably makes for a tough pull. |

Both of my Sierras have the rods in the middle hole of the pedal. Seems really good to me

having posted this, I realised my Pedal 5 was feeling a bit stiff (its got 4 pulls on it), so I tested my own theory and moved the pedal rod to the hole nearest the pedal bar, and now its an easier (but longer) pull.
You should also check which hole the rod is attached to at the other end, and go for the hole with the most leverage. |
