A couple of days ago I was running some errands and listening to a traditional country station and the Possum was singing whose gonna fill their shoes. I have heard that song a thousand times I guess but today it really hit home. After the loss of such greats as the Big E, Hal Rugg, and singers like the possum, the Hag and others, the song really got to me. I know nothing stays the same and music changes about every 10 yrs, but having reached the geezer stage myself, it let me know just how much I miss those guys. To me the songs of their day had meaning, like it or not, but still meaning. I just don't care for todays country, if that is what it is, but others do and that's just fine. I know there are many great steel players today, but how much work are they getting?

Let's face it Harold. Time & tastes change. The steel aint what it used to be but what is? IMHOP It's up to all of us to carry the torch in whatever manner we can, old music or new, whatever way we can. FWIW, There is still some great traditional country being invented nowadays. Mr. Montee posted a link recently with some great new traditional country. So it's out there if you can track it down.
Cheers
