Topic: SuperPro changer springs |

The SuperPro I am fixing up is missing some springs on both raise & lower fingers and on both changers, so I need to obtain a few of each. Or, I may replace them all if I can find a source and to keep equal tension on all fingers. Does anybody know of a source for them and what are the spec's for them.? Larry Robertson

EDIT:
you may learn that not all fingers had so called helper springs to begin with. Of all the Sho Buds I have owned and worked on, none of them had a full compliment of those springs, including this Super Pro.

Aren't you referring to raise helper springs, not lower return springs?
Your photo shows 20 lower return springs. |

Pretty sure Tony is referring to what most people call the raise helper spring. Also pretty sure the Super Pro (any all-pull steel?) won't function without return springs.
As for the helper springs, you'll find several threads on their benefits and drawbacks, depending on what you're trying to do. I forgot to leave one off my sixth string after putting some new fingers on my 6139 last weekend and couldn't get the string to lower a whole step anymore. Took the raise helper spring off and everything worked just fine again.[/i] |

Hey, Thanks to all you guys for the posts. Putting them all together got me thinking about removing some springs on the fingers not working properly and eureka! the thing became manageable again. I got all the raises & lowers on my C6 neck working perfectly. Now I just have to get the E9th side of the beast assembled. Thanks again, Larry

the raise helper springs will cause the strings not to come back in tune particularly on strings 4&8 when they
are raised and lowered. I took all the raise helper
off the guitar you don't need them....... |

Right, Also remember that string tension is equally important to proper operation of the changer. I don't actually know the formal name of those springs and may have used the wrong title .
