I have a NV400 that will not make a sound unless you open the volume pedal wide open to get it started, then it may be good the rest of the night. However, I have had it be intermittent. When pushed with volume it comes on in a loud static type pop. The volume is never over 6 on either the pre or the post. The fact that it does it cold (just turned on) or hot is perplexing to me. I may set it up for a gig and it will be fine, all of a sudden, no sound until I push the volume hard to it. Anyone ever have this issue with a 400? Could the caps be bad? I know absolutely nothing about electronic stuff. I figure someone out there has the answer, this is a great forum! _________________ Just north of the Weird place, south of Georgetown |

Mine used to do that. There have been multiple posts. I'll bet it is dirt in the pre/post jacks. Plug a guitar cord between them and the problem should go away. If so, clean the jacks. _________________ Franklin D10 8&5, Excel D10 8&5. Both amazing guitars! Glenn hit that one on the head.
I had this issue exactly and this was the fix.

The Preamp out/Power Amp in jacks can do the same thing as the pre jacks. If a cord in the pre jacks does not do it, connect one between the preamp out/power amp in.
If neither fixes it, I would suspect a bad (poor connection) on one of the internal Molex connectors as the next step. A dirty pot can also do that, with the power off, rotate each pot from zero to max back and forth several times.
If none of this works, time for a repair tech. |

Two of our techs think that the problem is the switching jacks. A simple lubrication or closing the loop by patching a cable from the pre amp out to the power amp in will fix it. But, the best suggestion is to replace the faulty jack. |

Thanks, Jack and Mike. I am a dyed in the wool Peavey guy. I have used them since 1976 when I started trying to play this animal we call pedal steel guitar. They have made me a lot of money over the years. There are not many amps out there that will ride in the bottom of a bus for so many years and keep on ticking. I almost never have equipment issues, so it freaks me out when I have something go wacky. Thanks again everyone. The forum is a great place for info. _________________ Just north of the Weird place, south of Georgetown |
