I'm currently playing through a Sarno V8 and a Quilter Tone Block. I'm going straight to the board
using the XLR direct out on the front of the unit
and also using the 1/4' speaker output on the back to
a 15" speaker cabinet.
My question is: Is there a way to adjust the volume on just the speaker cabinet without changing the Master volume already being sent to the board?
All I need is a simple volume control on the line to the speaker cabinet. `Any suggestion on what's available would be much appreciated. |

If you want to turn it down, you'll need an L-Pad _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects |

Thanks Lane. I was hoping there was a simple external device with a 1/4' input I could plug into.
I guess installing the L-Pad on the speaker cabinet is the correct way to go. |

Some V8 preamps were manufactured with a direct out offered as an option. If yours has that feature, you may be able to run the V8 directly to the board and control the stage volume with the 'Tone Block.' |

Thanks David, My V8 does have the XLR output in addition to the 1/4' unbalanced output.
My current setup is:
V8 rear XLR output to Toneblock 1/4 input / Toneblock XLR Direct Out to Board / Toneblock 1/4
rear 1/4 output to speaker cabinet.
Possible option:
V8 XLR output to board / V8 1/4' output to Toneblock / Toneblock 1/4" output to speaker cabinet.
Does this look ok? |

Bob...That appears to be the set up that I was referring to. Hopefully, employing the direct out on the V8 does not negate the signal to the 1/4" out, if so Brad could most likely modify the unit to accommodate your needs. Please keep me updated on the result. |

David,
That solved my problem. I was a little concerned bypassing the Quilter and going direct to the board
with the V8 but there was no problem at all.
In fact my sound has never been cleaner through the mains. The Sarno V8 is the best pre-amp I've played through so far.
Thanks again for the feedback.

Hi Bob--I'd meant to post here (but you are way ahead of me) that it seems to me that I've seen more people going straight out of the V8, even for recording, than I can recall ever seeing with any other pre. That says a lot.
For a long time, there's been a V8 in my future. One of these days.....
Glad you got this sorted out. |

Thanks John. I'm just across the river but I'm Brooklyn born and bred. Anytime you want to try my rig just let me know. I'm always looking for an excuse to go back. |
