I just changed to a wound 6th string on my Sho-Bud. Now that it's way out of whack, what do I need to do to get the string to tune properly (pedal travel?)? Any advice? |

Hey Alex,
Same thing happened to me on my first Steel.
A wound string has a different diameter and thus pulls differently than a plan, unwound string.
You will need to make an adjustment on your pull rod underneath the steel.
If you are not comfortable in doing this...take it to another local steel guy...he will be able to fix you up in a few minutes.
Are you playing a S-12 Universal???
I know this is an easy fix because REECE took care of mine in a manner of seconds.
loosen the set screw for the pull rod through the puller...
just a slight pull or push on the rod and then tighten the set screw...
Should fix you up.
Hope this helps.

Alex; which Shobud do you have??
It would depend on the pulling system you have on your bud as to the advice I would give on setting up the Wound 6th string pull; as opposed to the Plain.
Are you also trying to lower it??
If so; you most likely will only be able to lower it a half tone and if your not trying to lower it> good for you..ha.
Basically a wound 6th string needs a longer throw to pull from G# to A; than a plain 6th string. So whatever mechanism you have (Rack and Barrel) or (two hole pullers) or double raise/single lower or double/double or triple raise/double lower...You need to find the position for that wound 6th to pull more quickly.

I knew you would know Ricky!
I should have told him to ask you in the first place.
By the way, I would like to see you next time I'm in Austin. Maybe take a lesson.
Hope you are doing well.
