Topic: Anyone else own a satin finish Legrande? |

My -96 Legrande II has all its aluminum parts satin finished. I think it looks mighty sophisticated as a contrast to the glossy black mica, adding a sort of Leica/Porsche/BMW quality feel to the guitar.
I have never seen another one like this anywhere, so I was wondering how unusual it is. The Emmons people say the non-glare finish was an added cost option, but that is all I know.
Are there other forumites who own one like it?

Per, I suspect that "frosted" finish was done by a previous owner. (I doubt it came that way new.) That finish, done by a process called "vapor-honing", was used on the old MSA Semi-Classics, though. It's not real popular, because steel players seem to have an addiction to "shiny"!  The main advantage of that finish is that it's far cheaper and faster than mirror-polishing. The overall "look" it imparts is very similar to silver spray-paint. |

I deed see a video once on a site that showed how this is done.They sand it in.I think i saw it on the MSA website...A couple of years ago.

Donny, it really was ordered as a factory option back in -96, that has been confirmed by Emmons themselves, who also informed me that it was more expensive than the regular polished version. After that, I have not managed to get any answers from them, not even when trying to buy stuff...
I can see why it would not be so poular in the US - the "home of chrome" - but from a European style point of view the satin sheen is just right. And I surely don't mind NOT having to polish it!

| Carter offered that type of finish back in the late 90's as well, if it's the type of finish I'm thinking of. It's excellent for TV work, since it's not high-gloss or reflective. [This message was edited by Herb Steiner on 15 September 2004 at 06:39 AM.] |
