My ears also made me think it was more likely Hal Rugg.

I agree with Jerry, that the intro sounds exactly like Lew Houston. But, the solo sounds a lot like Hal Rugg. Maybe Hal copied a demo that had Lew on it?

That's what John told me too. Sounded like John from the first few notes. The tone sounded more like him than Hal.
