This year's Denver Steel Guitar Show was a sold out success. Sadly, many people could not get in because of the venue's capacity of 166 people. Jefferson Arca, one of the owners of the Clocktower Cabaret wrote the following message.
Chuck
Dear Friends of the Steel Guitar Festival,
My name is Jefferson Arca, and I am one of the owners of Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret, home of the Fifth Annual Steel Guitar Festival last Sunday, June 12th.
I would like to express my sincere apologies to anyone who was unable to get into the show due to our sold out status. I understand how frustrating it might have been to drive all the way downtown only to find out there were no more seats left.
We were just as surprised as you, to be honest. The first four years of the Festival at the Clocktower, not a single customer was ever turned away. We never had a absolutely full house, up to our legal fire code, and as such we were never forced to turn people away. We had no way of knowing that this year would be quite different from years past.
This year brought a record number of guests. We had a large number of walk-ups right away (60+ in the first hour or so of opening the door), and those walk-ups combined with the total number of musicians in the show, plus those who bought their tickets ahead of time online, to quickly fill us up to the maximum number of people allowed by law, which is 166.
Our box office employees are trained rigorously to respect the fire code (we lose our liquor license if we are caught with more people in the room than the fire laws allow), and must deny entrance to new guests once the fire code limit has been reached. The gentleman working on Sunday was following instructions from the owners and managers, and while it was disappointing news to many, it was exactly what we asked him to do, because the law demands us to adhere to this number.
Once again, none of us expected such a successful turnout, and so we didn’t know to warn people or somehow contact clients to ask for pre-paid reservations.
I am very sorry for those who could not get into the venue. I hope you do not blame anyone or anything other than great publicity, a great line-up of talent, and huge public interest in the tickets we had to sell. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns regarding this!
Sincerely,
Jefferson@lannies.com
