It's certainly not my most inspired playing but I finally got some decent audio of my Clinesmith D-8 paired with the Gibson EH185 amp.
For this kind of music, this is exactly the tone I've been wanting to hear for as long as I can recall. Soooo, thanks Todd Clinesmith for making a stunningly great guitar and thanks Eric Philipson for passing the incredible EH185 my way.

Very nice, I enjoyed that Chris. Nice to see that classic mandolin, too. _________________ Clinesmith consoles D-8/6 5 pedal, D-8 3 pedal & A25 Frypan, Pettingill Teardrop, & P8 Deluxe. |

Thanks, Andy. Yes - it's a pretty joyful bunch all in all. (And lord knows I've been in plenty of bands who weren't. Given the choice, I'll take joyful over the alternatives. )
John, Joe & Rick - Glad you like it!
Rick - Yeah - that's a cool looking and sounding mando. It's made here locally by Andy Gibson. Interestingly, though he's making mandos and guitars, he's not making steels even though he's a great steeler himself.
Stefan - Thanks and right you are. Simple as can be. Works for me! ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Andy Gibson made that ? I thought it was a Bigsby. _________________ Clinesmith consoles D-8/6 5 pedal, D-8 3 pedal & A25 Frypan, Pettingill Teardrop, & P8 Deluxe. |

I really enjoyed this band when I saw you a couple months back. Great material, picking, amp tone, and boots...though I cannot see yours in the video...
Shoulda bought your other Clinesmith when I had the chance! _________________ KEVIN MAUL: Airline, Beard, Clinesmith, Danelectro, Evans, Fender, GFI, Gibson, Hilton, Ibanez, Justice, K+K, Live Strings, MOYO, National, Oahu, Peterson, Quilter, Rickenbacher, Sho~Bud, Supro, TC, Ultimate, VHT, Williams, X-otic, Yamaha, ZKing. |

Rick - Two feet away and you'd still probably think it's a Bigsby - it's a pretty direct copy. Far better, though, even from a distance it sounds like one.
Jerry, Bob and Steve - Thanks on all counts!
Kevin - Geeeez, it's taken all these years to get me to (even reluctantly) wear a hat. Now you want boots??? As for the Clinesmith, you'd love one, I can close to guarantee. You know how much I love my Gibson CG and it rarely sees the light of day since I got the Clinesmith. Obviously not every guitar can be everybody's taste but, to my ears and eyes, these are pretty stunning instruments. |

BTW... At the cringing risk of commercializing this post a little, this band is slowly starting to tour outside the Nashville area. As you might imagine, this kind of music isn't exactly everyone's taste so we're looking for ideas on venues whose patrons would enjoy this type of music. Listening rooms, small theaters, festivals, etc. If you have ideas - whether in your area or elsewhere - and would be willing to PM them to me, that would be terrific.
Thanks! |

Thanks, Todd!
Yes, for all the reasons you mention, it's refreshing to be in a band where the sound isn't always either really dense or alarmingly loud. Too much of the time I'm playing with bands that are at least one and, often, both of those.
As for the speaker, all I can tell for sure is that it's not the original field coil. There's no sticker on it and I haven't yet been brave enough to pull it out of the cab for closer inspection. Whatever it is, I'm loving the sound it has. It really sings, especially once it's moving a bit of air. It's still decent at low volumes but really open up nicely once it's pushed a bit. |

Lyric Theatre in Stuart FL is a nice little upscale venue that might be a good fit. _________________ Steve Marinak |

I saw Arlo Guthrie at the Lyric last year. A very nice room. Seats 300 or so,has lots of theatre productions and specialty music acts. You'll need a good agent with lots of quality acts in the roster to get their attention I bet. It is a place where Riders in the Sky would play and maybe they have.
I forgot your tunings...C6 on back E13(6 or9 ) on the front? Or otherwise? _________________ KEVIN MAUL: Airline, Beard, Clinesmith, Danelectro, Evans, Fender, GFI, Gibson, Hilton, Ibanez, Justice, K+K, Live Strings, MOYO, National, Oahu, Peterson, Quilter, Rickenbacher, Sho~Bud, Supro, TC, Ultimate, VHT, Williams, X-otic, Yamaha, ZKing. |

I've never played the Lyric but have always heard that it's a great venue. I don't think this band has the juice to get in there just yet but hopefully somewhere down the road.
As for tunings, the outside neck is a standard 'high G' C6th. The inside neck is an ever-shifting E13th. Seems like every few weeks I twist a tuning key or two till I find something new I like and then beat myself up at the next show because notes aren't where I remember them. ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

chris...looks and sounds like a fun thing all around!
of course, you know me. i get a kick out of your concern for 'commercializing' 70 yr old music.
and of course, the hat! |

Doug - See there's a job for everyone!
Chris - It is fun, thank goodness. (As for the commercialization, it was concern about the commercializing of my post not the music. No risk after all this time of the latter, I'm guessing. If only... ) |
